My translational research has a strong focus on the molecular regulation of inflammation and includes basic research on signal transduction, in particular the role of NF-κB signaling and other pathways in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, DC vaccination, studies in animal models of arthritis, DCE-MRI and PET-CT imaging, and state-of-the-art tissue analysis (human and rodents).

Professor of rheumatology, with special interest in systemic autoimmune diseases
Rheumatologist with large clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with rheumatic diseases, in particular systemic autoimmune diseases (SLE, systemic sclerosis, vasculitis). His research focus on (risk factors for) the outcome of patients with systemic autoimmune diseases, and the evaluation of biomarkers (blood, tissue, imaging) and clinical trials in those diseases.
